    During the 2006 tax year, approximately 250,000 accounts were protested in Harris County. Protest are most often filed to dispute the market value of a property. Market value is part of the equation that determines how much property tax is due.

    Because the market value placed on properties is a matter of judgment and available information, values can be over stated or unequally appraised. With the right evidence and expertise, many property values are reduced through the hearings process, meaning a tax savings to the property owners.
