INFORMATION ABOUT PROTESTS

The number of property tax protests in Texas Counties continues to rise.

WHY PROTEST?

Properties are appraised according to market value, generally as of January 1 of the current year. The Market Value of a property is determined by appraisal judgment and available information, and can be over estimated. With the right evidence and expertise, many property values are reduced through the hearings process, meaning a tax savings to the property owners.

EXPERIENCE

If a value reduction and the respective tax savings are rightfully yours, why wouldn't you pursue them? Perhaps the reason is the time, work, and effort involved in gathering the right evidence and information necessary to prevail in a value hearing.

Even then, all the effort may be in vain without the expertise and knowledge to present the information clearly and effectively. Over the years I have represented the Harris County Appraisal District in thousands of value hearings. Since founding Wix PTS, I have represented thousands of property owners in hearings.  I know the system inside and out, and will aggressively pursue any tax savings available for my clients.

PROTEST DEADLINE

Timing is very critical when filing a protest. By the time you receive a value notice from the Appraisal District, the clock is ticking, and you have a very limited time to dispute your valuation through the normal hearings process. If the protest deadline is missed, the laws are much more restrictive with respect to granting a hearing for your property.

The protest deadline for most property owners is May 31, or 30 days after your appraisal notice is mailed, which ever is later.
